Recap

Hampshire Hogs v Old Amplefordians – 29.04.18

On a bitterly cold day, the Hogs made it 2 wins from 2 at the start of the 2018 season with a 4 wicket victory over Old Amplefordians.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, John Portal made 2 early breakthroughs to reduce the OAs to 15-2. However a strong partnership took them quickly to 110-2. The introduction of Jim Browne and Felix Organ stemmed this flow though and at lunch, Jim and Felix had two wickets each with the OAs at 150-5. After lunch, the Hogs wrapped up the innings in short order, bowling the opposition out for 183 with Felix Organ finishing with 4 wickets. Jim Browne took a couple of brilliant catches and all the bowlers had chipped in in a spirited bowling and fielding performance despite arctic conditions.

Batting had not been easy all day and the Hogs were soon 45-3 which quickly became 60-4 at tea. After tea however, a steadying knock of 60* from Felix Organ and a rearguard 35 from George Craven saw the Hogs over the line to win by 4 wickets. Despite the weather, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day against a great fun opposition.
