Scorecard – Hampshire Hogs v Grannies – 02.05.21

On a bright May Sunday the Hogs won the toss and elected to bat. Chris Hill was dismissed early by a good delivery from the Grannies’ opening bowler but that didn’t discourage the Hogs’ top order. Ollie Kelly and Ollie Brookes formed a resolute partnership and saw off the opening bowlers taking the total to 72 before the departure of Brookes for 16. Sacha Groom joined Kelly at the crease and the pair set about building the Hogs’ total.

After lunch Kelly moved to 100 and became the Hogs’ highest ever run scorer in the process. He was dismissed shortly afterwards which brought Kumo Sharma to the wicket. The Hogs’ declared at 230-3 from 47 overs. Groom finished 70* with Sharma on 14*

The opening bowlers Kendall and Dakin-Poole set the tone for a good bowling performance by the Hogs. Dakin-Poole removed one of the Grannies’ openers and Sam Kendall was incredibly unlucky to finish wicketless after beating the outside edge by a whisker with incredibly consistency during his 7 over spell.

The opening pair were replaced by the spin partnership of Stone and Beresford-Davies (Q) who bowled beautifully and restricted the Grannies batsmen. They ran through the top and middle order finishing with 2 and 3 wickets respectively. The Grannies batting line up was finished off by a direct hit run out by Kendall, Archie Knight’s first 2 Hogs’ wickets and one wicket for Brereton. The chase was halted for 148 from 35.3 overs.
