After 140 years of (very) traditional men’s cricket …
Hampshire Hogs needs help to establish cricket for women and girls
This is a project management role to plan and implement the building blocks for our vision of a unique space for recreational women’s cricket in the County, matching our reputation within the men’s game.
Our objective is to develop a fixture list and a founding group of players for the 2027 season. Candidates for the position should be able to demonstrate:
- a good understanding of the landscape of cricket for women and girls in the South of England and especially in Hampshire, most likely gained as a player, coach or administrator
- communication skills necessary to approach and discuss our objectives with relevant officials in leading schools, universities, clubs and individual players
- organisational skills to rise to the challenge of pioneering a format of non-league cricket not yet fully established in the women’s game
- capacity to work from home, with practical access to meetings at our ground and in the area as necessary
The project will be divided into two phases, planning and implementation, for completion by September 2026 and September 2027, for fixed payments. The role is very part-time and should be possible to merge with other commitments.
Hampshire Hogs shares its history with the famous “wandering” clubs founded in the 19th century, determined to play good cricket in sociable company. Nowadays we offer members an alternative to league cricket, or an option for league cricketers to play more often. We have modified the wandering tradition by acquiring a beautiful ground at Warnford, where most fixtures are played.
