The Hampshire Hogs Cricket Club, founded in 1887, has over 400 members and plays mainly declaration cricket against a variety of opposition, including MCC, I Zingari, Free Foresters and international touring sides.
As well as a full Men’s side, the Hogs also run an Academy (Under 25) and Junior sides.
Almost all of the 50 or so annual fixtures are played at the club’s beautiful ground at Warnford, set in the picturesque Meon Valley, and home to the Hogs since 1966.

Cricket of the highest order was on display at Warnford today. With County and club players turning out for both the Hogs and the MCC, the two games did not disappoint. Having won the first game (see previous post) the Hogs batted first in the second and blasted their way to 164 in their 20 overs with Aussie Emily Lawler scoring 50 off 37 balls and Iris Eshelby making 52 off 35 balls giving the Hogs what looked like a winning score. The MCC had other ideas and raced off in pursuit keeping up with the rate, with Diad (46 off 36) and Barton (54 off 41) putting on a rapid 67 and getting the hundred up in the 12th over. Brave captaincy saw Charlie Wolfe brought in to the attack with her ‘frog in a blender’ leg breaks and taking 2 critical wickets while Amelie Munday was never going to give up the chase with a 6 over mid wicket and 4’s everywhere as the MCC fell just short by 7 runs. The season just gets more extraordinary as the Hampshire Hogs Cricket Club played the Thames Otters at Warnford - all 4 of the Hog top order batters for the Hogs made 50 with Louis Hanson dodging the jug on 92, Ollie Mayes pedestrian with his 63 off 110 balls and James Thomas imperious with his mighty 51 off 27 balls who must have been inspired by the quite extraordinary innings at the other end as Hugo Halstead launched a veritable barrage of missiles to every corner of the ground scoring 132 off 51 balls including 11 6’s and willparvin declaring on 381 for 3 - we are scurrying through the record books to find out where this fits in the pantheon of club records and once we have dusted off the ledgers and digitised them then we will let you know!! The thames_otters_cc responded brilliantly and were still in the game with twenty overs to go with a brilliant 151 by Harry Munns getting them close, but bowling from the legend that is Andrew Halstead (4 for 29) and Zach Holmes (4 for 53) saw the Hogs over the line with an over to spare.
